Why Does the Heart Matter to February?

As we all know that February is flooded with roses and chocolate, but do you know that February is also the “Heart Month”? Here are some shocking facts about the heart disease: About 610,000 people die of heart disease in the United States every year, which is 1 in every 4 deaths. Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women. More than half of the deaths due to heart disease in 2009 were in men.

How could you know whether you are at the risk of heart disease? Here are some risk factors:
  • High blood pressure
  • High blood cholesterol
  • Diabetes and prediabetes
  • Smoking
  • Being overweight or obese
  • Being physically inactive
  • Having a family history of early heart disease
  • Having a history of preeclampsia during pregnancy
  • Unhealthy diet
  • Age (55 or older for women)
