A new Approach to Addictions ❤️

Have you heard about ibogaine? Ibogaine is an indole alkaloid compound found in iboga, a shrub in West Africa. It is found in the roots of the iboga plant. Ibogaine has been used in spiritual rituals for centuries, especially in healing ceremonies and shamanistic rituals in the Bwiti religion in West Africa. People who ingest iboga report powerful visions and spiritual experiences. Evidence of this practice dates back to at least the 18th century, but has likely been around for much longer.

Ibogaine is currently under consideration as an addiction treatment for people with opioid addiction and alcohol addiction. It’s also under consideration as a treatment for various mental health disorders, including depression and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Some research suggests that ibogaine changes addiction-related pathways between nerve cells in the brain. It may also affect signaling in brain regions that play a role in the behavioral effects of addictive drugs.

According to a story in Time Magazine, the first documented knowledge of the potential value of ibogaine for addiction treatment was around 1962 when a group of informal researchers discovered that ibogaine eliminated withdrawal symptoms and reduced heroin cravings and desire to use heroin for at least six months. In small doses, ibogaine functions as a mild stimulant. Larger doses can lead to hallucinations and a deep psychedelic experience. Stanford Medicine researchers have discovered that ibogaine, when combined with magnesium to protect the heart, can safely and effectively reduce PTSD, anxiety, and depression and improve functioning in veterans with TBI. Some research suggests that ibogaine may alter addiction-related pathways between nerve cells in the brain and impact signaling in regions associated with the behavioral effects of addictive drugs.

Ibogaine interacts with multiple neurotransmitter systems in the brain. It affects the dopamine and serotonin systems, which are both involved in reward processing and mood regulation. Ibogaine can reduce the intense feelings of cravings and compulsion that are common during addiction treatment. Some people reported experiencing long-lasting changes in behavior and thought patterns after ibogaine treatment. Ibogaine allows the individual to reprocess traumatic memories and create deep and meaningful visions of spiritual transformation. During the treatment, many individuals report having deep, introspective experiences that allow them to reprocess past trauma, understand the root causes of their addictions, and gain spiritual insight into their emotional and mental health. This helps them identify the emotional pain or psychological factors that contribute to their substance use. By understanding and processing these deep-rooted causes, individuals may prevent relapse in the future.

Ibogaine also shows promising outcomes in opioid addiction treatment, such as heroin, morphine, and painkillers. One of the major challenges in opioid addiction treatment is dealing with withdrawal symptoms. Ibogaine has been shown to reduce the symptoms of opioid withdrawal, which can be severe sometimes. Observational studies have concluded that since ibogaine is a stimulant, it can speed the heart rate enough to cause cardiac arrest. Adverse events associated with cardiac issues, including two documented deaths during ibogaine treatment, indicate that a thorough medical screening process must be performed before the treatment with ibogaine, and treatment should be delivered in a medical setting with effective safety standards. Medical researchers have discovered that when combined with magnesium, ibogaine can be used to reduce PTSD, anxiety, and depression safely and effectively, while protecting the heart.
